Die Bundesautobahn A8 verbindet die großen Städte Süddeutschlands: Karlsruhe, Stuttgart, Ulm, Augsburg und München. Infrastruktur und Mobilität des 20. und 21. Jahrhunderts haben diese Orte einander näher rücken lassen. Doch bereits lange zuvor formten sie einen gemeinsamen Kulturraum, der große überregionale Strahlkraft entfaltete. Im 16. Jahrhundert war es die herausragende Qualität der Hofkapellmeister und Stadtpfeifer in Stuttgart, Augsburg und München, die den europaweiten Ruf dieses Kulturraumes begründete. Die achtstimmigen Werke, die ein Ludwig Daser in Stuttgart, ein Gregor Aichinger oder ein Hans Leo Hassler in Augsburg, und selbstverständlich ein Orlando di Lasso in München komponierten, zählen zu den technisch anspruchsvollsten und musikalisch herausragendsten Stücken ihrer Zeit.
A8 – das bezieht sich auf kunstvolle achtstimmige Polyphonie, das bezieht sich aber auch auf die Städte, die an der Bundesautobahn A8 liegen: A8 – eine klangvolle Strecke zu acht Stimmen!

The A8 highway connects the major cities of southern Germany: Karlsruhe, Stuttgart, Ulm, Augsburg and Munich. The infrastructure and mobility of the 20th and 21st centuries have brought these cities closer together. But long before that, they formed a common cultural area that had a great supra-regional impact. In the 16th century, it was the outstanding quality of the court kapellmeisters and city pipers in Stuttgart, Augsburg and Munich that established the Europe-wide reputation of this cultural area. The eight-part works composed by Ludwig Daser in Stuttgart, Gregor Aichinger or Hans Leo Hassler in Augsburg, and of course Orlando di Lasso in Munich, are among the most technically demanding and musically outstanding pieces of their time.
A8 - this refers to artistic eight-part polyphony, but it also refers to the cities that lie on the A8 motorway: A8 - a sonorous route to eight voices!
